The English Record

The English Record is the academic journal of the New York State English Council.  We have published writing on the education profession since 1950.  Starting with Volume 59, the journal is under the co-editorship of Herm Card and Tim Fredrick.  Our goal as editors is to continue to present information to our readers that is professionally useful and intellectually stimulating, and we invite submissions on current topics in English and literacy education, and related writing in appropriate genres.

We encourage you to submit work that reflects successful classroom practice and relates to current issues in education that are pertinent to success in the English language arts.

As in our classrooms, we stress the need for distinct voice in submissions, asking that you remember that, while we all "stand on the shoulders of giants," our readers appreciate the unique experiences of teachers and students of all types.  The English Record values research and the use of reliable sources to enhance an article if they serve the purpose of exchanging ideas based on teachers' own experiences and disseminating authentic research with direct implications for improving teaching practice.  Our readers appreciate seeing themselves, their students, and their own classrooms reflected in the articles of this journal.  These considerations carry significant weight with the editors and the members of our peer review panel.

Given the opportunity, please submit your work in the current themes or on any topic that would prove useful, engaging and energizing to our readers.  Memoir, poetry, short essays, photos and other art work will all be welcomed and considered as publishable material along with the more traditional fare of an academic journal.
